What happens when I arrive in the UK?

We will pick you up at your arrival point and take you to your new accommodation. We will visit you the next day and talk to you about your new job in the UK and complete a document check to make sure you have all the correct documents to start your new job.

What about the living accommodation?

We will have organised your accommodation before you arrive. A welcome pack will be in place to help you settle as quickly as possible. We recognise how important ‘comfortable’ accommodation is to you. Our property team will always ensure that your ‘new home’ is fully furnished, centrally heated, and there will never be more than 2 people sharing a room.

How will I pay for my accommodation?

You will have money deducted from your weekly wage to cover your rental and living costs. We will carefully explain before you arrive in the UK exactly what will be deducted and how much you can expect to pay for rent, heating etc.

Will my Polish mobile phone work in the UK?

Yes, but only if you activate ‘roaming’ on your mobile before you come to the UK. If this cannot be done, don’t worry, we can help you. English O2 ‘sim packs’ can be bought for around £10.00.

It is very important that you can communicate with your family at all times. Remember to switch on roaming before you leave home if you already have a mobile.

Will I receive any road training?

Yes…. It is very important that you receive road-driving lessons before you start work.  You will be given free driving lessons from a qualified driving instructor when you arrive. Once you have trained, you start your driving.

What do I have to do to drive?

In most areas you will need to sit and pass a local driving knowledge test and a medical when you arrive in the UK. You also need to have all the correct documents with you to. You will be given a taxi badge once you pass your knowledge test and medical.  We will help you with this and also provide free driving lessons from a qualified driving instructor.

Will I have to pay for my knowledge test, medical and taxi badge?

Yes, paying is your responsibility. We can help you out with this if you do not have the money when you arrive. We will loan you the money. You can pay this back when you start driving over a period of time.

How long will it take for me to start driving?

That’s down to you. You need to study and pass your knowledge test, medical, and    complete our free driving course/programme. It normally takes our candidates around 2 weeks to start work.

How do I register for a National Insurance Number?

New workers arriving from Eastern Europe who have not worked in the UK before must apply for a National Insurance Number ASAP. Profound Services will help and support you through this process by arranging appointments at your local Job Centre. Until you receive your number your new employer can pay you by using a temporary National Insurance Number.

What visas, work permits or registration schemes do I have to apply for?

Since May 2004, workers from the EU have been able to work and live in the UK without needing a work permit or visa but they will need to register with the Worker’s Registration Scheme and obtain a National Insurance Number.

Whilst recruiting workers from Poland, Eastern Europe and other EU countries is a relatively straightforward process, there are certain issues that employers should be aware of:

Workers’ Registration Scheme

From 1st May 2004, most nationals of the new EU member states (except Cyprus and Malta) who wish to work for more than one month for an employer in the UK need to register under the Worker Registration Scheme.

Within 30 days of you starting work in the UK, you must register with the Home Office under the Workers’ Registration Scheme. Profound Services will guide you through this process and assist with paperwork and applications.

We will hold a copy of the completed application form on file, until the Home Office notifies you that they have been registered. We will then pass all the copies on to your new employer to keep on file.
